Kelly & Ben’s Adventure | A Mount Rainier Adventure Photography Session at Paradise Meadow

Kelly and Ben contacted us all the way from Maine for their adventure session in Washington. They were marrying in Maine, and honeymooning in Alaska – with a couple day layover in the Seattle area to see the sights. One of those sights they wanted to see was Mount Rainier, and we were thrilled to be able to go up there with them at the tail end of wildflower season and capture part of their honeymoon travels for them. We may have also tried to convince them to bring us along to Alaska to continue the session, to no avail. But hiking around Paradise meadow with the two of them was a great time. We chatted about Maine (Joe takes every chance he gets to talk about Maine’s idiosyncrasies with another Mainer besides me), what they were going to do in Alaska, and marmots. (We’ll pretty much try anything we can to get a couple laughing, and telling Kelly and Ben there was a marmot right behind them while they were sitting down totally worked.) One of the things we love most about adventure sessions is being able to be a little bit spontanious with locations. We had Kelly and Ben ride with us up to Paradise, and on our way out of the park we took advantage of that fact by taking a small “detour” we had always wanted to take. We weren’t sure what we were going to find, especially when we hit a road closure. One of us must have looked out the window at just the right time, to see a perfect view of Mount Rainier lit up by the last rays of sunset. Kelly and Ben got an epic end to their engagement session, and Joe took a few seconds to nab an awesome landscape photo as well. Which, of course, we delivered along with the rest of their images. Something we’re thinking might get included in every adventure session we shoot – since Joe is such an avid landscape photographer, and we go to such picturesque locations for these kinds of sessions!
